Breast Cancer Comfort Hearts Join Cecile, DiAnn and friends in making heart shaped pillows for breast cancer survivors that will be distributed to hospitals and doctors offices throughout the Valley. These pillows are given to women at the time of surgery and will be utilized as a part of their recovery. We need people of all ages and expertise to cut, stitch, stuff, and attach labels. Since May 2004, over 3400 hearts have been made with materials donated by friends. Tina’s Treasures at Virginia Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Shea Healthcare, St Joseph’s Hospital and the Wellness Community receive and distribute these hearts. Hearts are always available at BC for those who need them. Won’t you come help with this project? A little of your time or resources can really make a difference for someone experiencing breast cancer. Call to let us know that you are coming and if you are bringing your sewing machine so we can plan for machines, work stations and fabric. Working kids are welcome Pillowcases for Charity
BC is participating in the 2010 American Patchwork & Quilting Make a Pillowcase, Make a Difference challenge to help them reach a goal of donating one million pillowcases to local charities. Every pillowcase can make a difference in our community. It can provide comfort for a cancer patient, hope for a foster child, encouragement for a battered woman, or beauty for a nursing home resident. The official pillowcase counter is at www.allpeoplequilt.com/pillowcases. Check the web site for details. BC is a drop off for cases you make at home.
Pillowcases for Ryan House We’re making pillowcases for Ryan House, a respite home in Phoenix for children with life limiting illnesses. Each case is embroidered and constructed to fit the decorating theme of the house. We need you to help embroider, sew and package. Please RSVP for planning purposes and let us know if you are bringing a sewing machine or an embroidery machine.
